Ash Wednesday

Today is Ash Wednesday; it begins the forty days of Lent. Recently a member of my family asked a question of someone who made a mess, then just walked away: “Who do you think is going to clean up this mess?”

“Who is going to clean up the mess I made?” is a great question.

As we enter the season of Lent, we devote special attention to that question so we have the greatest appreciation for the best of all possible answers. Our Creator Himself cleans up all messes for everyone everywhere for all time. His life for ours and his life in ours keeps us mindful so that we are careful not to make messes or leave messes as a burden to others, if we can help it. We are also inspired to be cheerful and ready when we have opportunity to clean something up for someone else.
