Again, the Son of God visits Abraham, in human form and with two angels. Abraham shows appropriate hospitality. Again, the Lord confirms the promise by telling Abraham that He will return in a year and Abraham will have a son by Sarah.
Like so many people in the Old Testament, Abraham will give us insight into the nature of the promised redeemer when he intercedes for Sodom. The Lord’s patience is indicative of His will that none should perish (see 1 Timothy 2:4 and 2 Peter regarding His patience). How horrific was the situation in Sodom and Gomorrah? Like all people before the flood, so bad that not even 10 faithful people can be found—even Lot, his wife, and two daughters have been drawn into their wickedness.
