How often and in what way do you hear the word “praise”?
Most of the time I hear the word praise as an imperative: “Praise the Lord” (which is English for the Hebrew “Hallelujah!”). Psalm 78:4 explains that “praise” means to tell the wonderful things that God has done. Thus we know that the imperative to “praise the Lord” does not mean to repeat the word “praise” over and over again. To obey the imperative to praise the Lord is to do something practical and beneficial: declare, discuss, and consider the wonderful works that God has done, because those works are all done for you. Meditating on them brings peace because what God HAS done He will surely CONTINUE to do. And pondering that brings not only peace, but gratitude and joy. Praise the Lord!
