Last month, in this post, I mentioned blind spots and double standards. What are blind spots and double standards? And who cares?
Everyone should care about blind spots and double standards because they make us antagonistic toward each other, especially toward the people we want to love.
A blind spot is an area of life that you don’t see; you are unaware of it because it doesn’t exist for you. But these areas are real and really important.
A double standard is when you justify your own thinking, words, and actions but condemn the same in others. “It’s right when I do it, but wrong when others do it.”
One more problem, maybe the worst problem of all: How do we know what our blind spots and double standards are . . . especially because we don’t want to know?
Any answers and solutions? More thoughts on this soon.
