Sunday Summary: Sixth Sunday of Easter

The readings for the sixth Sunday of Easter are taken from Acts 17:16-31; 1 Peter 3:13-22; and John 14:15-21.

Acts records how Paul shared the grace and truth of God with the people of Athens.  Peter gives us the imperative to keep on setting aside the Lord God in our hearts so that we are always ready to give a defense of the hope that is in us, of which the reading from Acts is such an excellent example.

John records Jesus promising to send the Holy Spirit, who is also called the “comforter,” “counselor,” and “helper”.  All of those words are based on the Greek word “para-kaleo,” which means “to be alongside of someone and call to them,” with counsel, encouragement, and words that help—as Peter does in his epistles and Paul in Athens.
