Podcast: Gen. 40:1-23

Pharaoh’s butler and baker are in prison and they both have dreams.  Joseph interprets their dreams; the butler is restored but the baker is hanged. Joseph makes clear that interpretation belongs to God, as 2 Peter 1 says, “No prophecy is of any private interpretation” and Luther taught, “The Bible interprets itself.” My experience has been that there are always at least two ways to know if an interpretation of text or nature is accurate.

Note also that God leaves Joseph in prison two more years before the butler remembers him; how long does it take for God to strengthen a regenerate soul to remain dominant in service to God and others and prevail over a selfish, corrupt human nature?
