All things to all people?

A few Sundays ago, the epistle reading was from 1 Corinthians 9:9-13 where Paul talks about being all things to all people in order to bring them into the kingdom of God. Are we succeeding at this?

Certainly Jesus was absolutely and always successful at being all things to all people; He was even just what those who opposed Him most needed.

Are we conscious of becoming all things to all people in order to help them into the kingdom of God, or do we tend to be critical and offended by others who are not as we would like them to be?

What if we began to replace seeing what we don’t like with seeing opportunity for conversation? What if seeing what we don’t like was seeing evidence that others need the kingdom of God, if only we could show it to them?

What a wonderful new disposition and what a healthy, positive exercise for the mind and soul—as ambassadors for Christ, to look for and pursue opportunities to meet people where they are.  God’s Word and Spirit will surely work this in us.
