What would you think is the most righteous sacrifice a person could offer to God—to sacrifice our life? Sacrificing one’s life for another is the greatest LOVE according to Jesus (John 15:13).
The NKJV translation of Psalm 4:5 says, “Offer the sacrifices of righteousness and put your trust in the Lord.” This translation makes it sound like there are two things we should do AND we are the ones doing those things. But the text actually says this: “Sacrifice sacrifices of righteousness. That is to say, be at rest in honesty about dependence on the Lord.”
Thus, the most righteous thing anyone could ever do is be at rest in a life that depends on the perfect righteousness of Christ. Does that mean the kind of rest where you just lay around? Stay tuned for an answer to that question.
